4010 m long with challenging course, curves and chicanes on the former Formula 1 track in Zolder. At the location of the track in Belgium we also expect classic Belgian September weather with little sun and rain.
The Racetrack
Le Mans Start
Quite classic for a 24 hour race, the iESC also starts with a Le Mans start where all drivers get into the car at the same time and drive off. We are starting this year not only with the Covestro Photon but also with the Covestro Sonnenwagen. For us, competing with two cars means efficient driver arrangement and team managing during the race.
24 h
that's how long the participants drive. Day and night and as many laps as they can manage. The iLumen European Solar Challenge is the only 24 hour race for solar cars worldwide. During this time we are allowed to charge 2 times.
The Rating System
The number of laps driven is not the only evaluation criterion. The cars must also master a dynamic parkour and drive a particularly fast lap. A presentation about the technical components of the car must also be given. Last year the Covestro Sonnenwagen made it to the podium and became vice european champions.
