An important part of the preparations for the European Solar Challenge 2020 is to restore the outer shell of the Covestro Sonnenwagen, which was damaged in our accident in Australia, to its original beauty.

As a first step, we removed the temporary repairs made of adhesive tape that we had added in the Australian outback. Heavy heartedly, we also had to remove all of the vehicle's livery to do this. What remained was a completely white Sonnenwagen. The next step was to analyze the damage in detail and develop the best approach for repairing it. The challenge was to restore an even, stable surface to the shell. Since some of the paint was severely damaged, we also had to expose large parts of the hull down to the primer.

In the next few weeks we will continue to repair the damage, repaint and re-foil the Covestro Sonnenwagen so that we can present the new Covestro Sonnenwagen for the European Solar Challenge in an upcoming article.
